Crownbet have launched another new competition in partnership with Fox Sports called Draftstars which is based around AFL fantasy tipping but Draftstars is not like other tipping competitions available as this is a paid entry with limited participants. This is a great new concept and due to the entry fees for each tournament it means you will be up against serious AFL fans from across Australia.
After having a quick look around the Draftstars site I can see it has been set up almost like an online poker portal with different competitions running each week with various buy-in options. There are several different types of game options with head to head match ups along with big guaranteed multi player competitions. There are options for games with or without a salary cap in place with the biggest prizes within the salary cap band of competitions, Draftstars even has a weekly freeroll like most online poker sites were players can enter free of charge with a prize pool of $1,000. There is a small fee taken out of the winnings by Draftstars which is similar to the rake in poker.
Players have the option of choosing which stakes they would like to play with differing prize pools, the main competition sees a guaranteed pool of $30k with a maximum of 2275 players with a buy in of $15. The prize structure pays players down to 350th place with a top prize of $4.5k. There is an option for you to create your own game in which you can choose the type of game and the stake for entrants.
The software is not new to fantasy draft competitions, Crownbet are using the same software as US giant DraftDay who are well established and are one of the biggest fantasy operators in the US. In the coming months there will be new additions to Draftstars with more sports being offered including NRL and basketball.
The concept is great, I have been waiting for someone to have a go at this sort of thing for a while now as it gives you an incredible opportunity to actually win something due to the cap on entries. As much as I love free competitions you have very little chance of winning due to the sheer number of players.
If your like me and you would rather put up a bit of your hard earned and maybe reap the rewards then Draftstars if definitely for you and the more the Aussie public get behind the idea then the better the outcome will be regarding bigger prizes and more sports to play.

WHAT IS DAILY FANTASY SPORTS?
In daily fantasy sports, you build a team of athletes from a particular sports league that competes against other similarly-selected teams and earn points based on the actual statistical performance of the athletes in real-world sporting events. Daily fantasy sports are a more exciting variation of traditional season-long fantasy sports and are conducted over short periods, such as a week or single day of sporting events, as opposed to those that are played for an entire season. You are not bound to your fantasy team for the whole season, and you can start over with a whole new group of athletes every day or week.
Unlike traditional fantasy sports, where your teams stay together over the course of an entire season, daily fantasy sports (DFS) contests allow you to enter a new team of 5-10 athletes in daily or weekly contests, for cash prizes. You can start over with a whole new group of players, teams, and tactics every day.
Draftstars is a daily fantasy sports (DFS) platform where players can put all their skill and knowledge of sport to the ultimate test.
Draftstars has a wide variety of sports and contest types to choose from, launching with the AFL and many more sports to follow shortly. Pick your preferred sport and contest from the Draftstars lobby and draft your ultimate fantasy team in minutes. Our contests allow you to choose athletes from a full round of matches (i.e. weekend), or across a single day, or in some cases an individual match.
Once you've finalised your team, you can enter it into free or paid contests against mates or the wider Draftstars community to win real cash prizes.
