Melbourne v Sydney

The Demons continued their good run of form with a hard fought victory last week away against the Eagles ending a 15 year losing streak in Perth in the process. Trailing deep into the final term and needing points quickly the Demons kicked three unanswered goals to stun the Eagles, McDonald was the hero for the Demons kicking a last gasp winner and taking his tally to five for the game. The win keeps the Demons well in contention for a top four birth come the end of the season with them currently lying in 5th spot.

The Swans also had to fight right to the whistle and from a seemingly impossible position late on snatched victory from the jaws of defeat when Gary Rohan scored from close range on the siren, trailing by 19 points with only eight minutes remaining the Swans managed to kick the last three goals of the game to keep their season alive. The nature of this win may well kick start their season and they will be confident going into this of making it four wins on the bounce.

Prediction - Tough one to call with the confidence gained by the Swans after last weeks heroics but slight preference has to be for the home side who are in good form.

Tip - Demons Win $1.87 - Margin bet 1-39 Swans @2.4

Western Bulldogs v West Coast Eagles

The Bulldogs got back to winning ways last week after two losses but they were made to sweat as North Melbourne got to within one point of the Doggies after trailing by 26 mid way through the last term. In a game that the Bulldogs controlled they nearly through away the four points with a lackluster fourth quarter performance and although they held on there were worrying signs in the last quarter that they may well need to address.

West Coast have now lost four of their last five games after going down once again this time at the hands of the Demons in a home game that they would expect to win. The Eagles look set to take the points after an impressive third term saw them move out to a 16 point lead half way through the last term but they were unable to finish the game off and the Demons came back at them with three late goals to snatch a 99-96 victory.

Prediction - The Eagles are in free fall at the moment and while you wouldn't want to put your house on the Bulldogs they may well be too good here.

Tip - Bulldogs Win $1.48

Carlton v Adelaide

Carlton's season looks all but over for another year after suffering yet another loss making it eight for the season, it will take something extra special from the Blues if they are to salvage anything in 2017. After a good start to the game against Richmond going in after the first term with a slight advantage the Blues fell tamely away thereafter eventually losing by 26 points.

Adelaide slipped to their fourth defeat of the season last week when they were over run in the last term by a Hawks side who were fighting to keep their season alive. The Crows took an 18 point lead in to the half time break and you would have thought that would have been that but in the second half they were outplayed and eventually went down 96-82 in a game they probably should have won.

Prediction - Hopefully the Crows had a wake up call last week and they will now know that they cannot take anyone for granted in the run up to the finals and unfortunately for Carlton they may well be on the wrong end of a improved Crows performance.

Tip - Crows Win $1.29

Gold Coast v North Melbourne

The Suns started off well last week against St Kilda but with a deleted side they were unable to keep up the intensity and after going in 12 points down at half time they were never able to mount a challenge in the second half as the Saints ran out comfortable winners with the game finishing 103-72. With the Suns sitting on only 20 points and two wins outside the top eight their season now looks all but over for another year.

North Melbourne suffered their third straight defeat last week but their performance showed much promise after narrowly going down away against the Bulldogs. Trailing by 26 points half way through the last term the Kangaroos never gave up and eventually only went down by a point but it could have been an unlikely victory if Ben Browns late goal wasn't disallowed for a block on Tom Campbell resulting in a penalty to the Doggies.

Prediction - It's a must win game for the Suns if they are to have any chance of finals footy this season and although they have had a few setbacks in the last couple of rounds they may well get back to winning ways in front of their home crowd.

Tip - Suns Win $1.87

GWS v Geelong

After a shock defeat in round 12 at the hands of Carlton a bye week in round 13 was much needed and GWS didn't disappoint on their return routing the Brisbane Lions by 60 points. The Giants now find themselves at the top of the ladder after their victory over the Lions due to the Crows losing but this weeks assignment is a different kettle of fish as an inform Cats are sure to test their premiership credentials.

Geelong like the Giants are coming into this in form winning four out of their last five but last weeks comeback victory against the Dockers may well have taken something out of them. Trailing by 34 points at one stage the Cats slowly gathered in the Dockers but the victory looked unlikely as the Cats were still trailing by 19 points at the start of the last term. The fourth quarter saw Geelong kick three goals and five behinds as they limited Fremantle to only two behinds which resulted in a 74-72 unlikely victory.

Prediction - The Giants are rightly going into this as favourites but the Cats will be on a high and look way overpriced so preference is for them at the value odds.

Tip - Cats Win $3.25

Port Adelaide v Richmond

The Power still sit in fourth after notching up their eighth win of the season last week when they easily brushed aside Collingwood 93-62. Port Adelaide took the lead early and always looked comfortable throughout the match thanks to a superb first half performance by Robbie Grey who kicked four of his five goals before half time. Port will be looking to cement their position in the top four this week with a win against one of their counterparts vying for a top four birth.

Richmond bounced back from their heartbreaking defeat against the Swans with a solid performance against Carlton which saw them run out easy winners 84-58 in a game they were always in control of after half time. The Tigers will know there is more on the line here and the outing will be tougher but they are a team that when they get things right they are a match for anyone this season.

Prediction - Again another team that I feel is way overpriced in what should be a good game so I have to plump for the Tigers and with them given a 20 point start it may well be the best bet of the day.

Tip - Tigers Win $3.35 - Take The Line -20.5 Tigers @1.92

Essendon v Brisbane

The Bombers season took an almighty blow right on the siren last week in one of those games that will leave you scratching your head for some time. Sydney looked to have the game in the bag with a 24 point lead deep into the third term but the Bombers strung together seven goals to blow out to a 19 point lead with 23 minutes gone in the final term but back came the Swans scoring the last 20 points of the game in the remaining eight minutes. Essendon will take many positives from the game but when all said and done they cam away with nothing and those four points may well be crucial in weeks to come.

Brisbane suffered yet another heavy defeat last week this time at the hands of ladder toppers GWS eventually going down 146-86 in a one sided game which was their 11th loss of the season. The Lions are a team in transition as we know but their young squad need to be held more accountable for their performances when suffering huge losses like this one.

Prediction - The bombers should be too strong for the Lions and come away with the points and they will hope a few results above them go in their favour.

Tip - Bombers Win $1.10 - Margin bet 40+ Bombers @1.63

Hawthorn v Collingwood

Hawthorn upset the apple cart last week when they overturned the ladder leaders Adelaide away from home to keep their slender hopes of finals football alive but they have set themselves a pretty impossible task and will have to win nearly every game this season to have any chance.

Collingwood are another team who are in a do or die situation after suffering their second straight loss and their eighth of the season after going down to Port Adelaide last week in front of their home support 93-62. Collingwood were never really in the game after a slow start and they once again showed their vulnerability against the top sides.

Prediction - Probably a toss of the coin this one with slight preference to the Hawks only for the fact that they are coming here with a decent win under their belt last week and should be full of confidence.

Tip - Hawks Win $1.95

Fremantle v St Kilda

The Dockers blew a game last week that looked all but over at half time with them leading the Cats by 22 points at the half time interval. The second half saw Fremantle look a shadow of the side that had played the first half and more worrying they looked tired as the Cats dug deep eventually winning 74-72 after still trailing by 19 points at the start of the final term. That loss sees the Dockers drop to 12th on the ladder and with that their hopes of finals footy this season in the balance.

St Kilda made light work of the Gold Coast last week comfortably running out 103-72 winners extending their winning sequence to two games. After a slow start the Saints managed to get their heads in front before half time and their lead was always looking comfortable during the second half. The win sees them climb into the top eight and they will be spurred on by that fact here and they will want to put in another solid performance once again this week to keep in the hunt.

Prediction - Fremantle have lost four on the bounce and while they are at home and we know that can be a huge advantage for them preference is for the Saints who will be confident after their victory last week and they way the Dockers fell away in their game will also give them another boost.

Tip - St Kilda Win $2.00
